Meaghan Thurston!
- Dressed in Black: We’ve tentatively named this newish blog column in honour of the tune by The Shangri-Las cuz it’s a little moody sounding…like us! You’ll be able to locate this series by clicking on the Style & Fashion category below. Now without any further ado, our sixth interviewee, Meaghan Thurston :
In 5 words or less, describe your style:
Hand-me-down-Dame
Describe two items in your closet that you love:
A fitted, white, hand-made jacket by Montreal designer Christie-Ann. I
bought it when I was 20 as a birthday gift to myself. I barely wear it
because it is so damn nice. I also love these perfectly worn-in jeans
that I got at a yard sale for $5. In those jeans, I can play the part
of a rock band groupie.
Fashion trend you swore you would not partake in but have fallen victim to (and now kind of love…):
Though not exactly trendy, I confess I am a slave to a pair of
skin-tight Miss Sixty pleather pants. I can’t help it!
If you had to get a knuckle tattoo, what would it read?
Well, you’d have to strap me down kicking and screaming so I’d only
get one hand done and it would say, ISIS.

What do you listen to when getting ready to go out/stay in?
When I stay in I take advantage of my roommate’s vinyl. We’ve been
listening to a lot of Fats Domino, Fleet Foxes and Ella Fitzgerald.
When I’m going out I indulge in something like Santigold.
Biggest fashion pet peeve?
The baby doll dress. They look horrible on me and most women. Ew, Lolita!
Your fave style icon?
I like everything Cate Blanchette wears.
Favourite shoppes?
I like to window shop for local designers like Valerie Dumaine at Arterie. The awesome Carmen Sandiego inspired jacket I found last week
means I now “heart” Winners. Those of you from the East Coast will
understand what I mean when I say FRENCHY’S. That place is worth a
road-trip.
Your best vintage find/DIY fashion project?
This awesome “saddle-purse” I got at the Salvation Army on St. Hubert
a couple of weeks ago. It is actually fashioned to look like a
miniature saddle and has fake sheepskin lining on the inside. It is
amazing.
What do you see yourself wearing in 5 years?
Wide brimmed hats, a whip and a moleskin.
